Banbridge
Town can lay claim to the fact that the Downshire Arms (previously owned
by Lord Downshire) was used as the second coach stop from Belfast to
Dublin in the ‘good old days’.
Here we have a fine example of an old Georgian Coaching Inn
(built in 1816) but still retaining the old world charm throughout the
establishment. The
Bar-Lounge still has a wide open fireplace, glowing and radiating a warm
and friendly welcome to all. Bedrooms
still retain the atmosphere of a gracious age with high moulded
ceilings, and main dining room facilities, offering a excellent
selection of food. Although
modernisation was found necessary, nothing has been done to change the
general character of the premises.
Car parking presents no problems as you have the use of the old
Coach Yard and a car park attached to the establishment.
